Farooq Khan has served as Chairman of Orion Equities since 2006.
With a background in corporate law, Farooq Khan has established and chaired a number of ASX listed companies in Australia since the 1990’s. Below are some highlights of Mr Khan’s career to date:
FINANCIAL SERVICES EXPERIENCE
Within the financial services sector, as well as serving as Chairman of Orion Equities, Farooq Khan also currently serves as Chairman of Australian Stock Exchange Listed investment company Bentley Capital Limited (formerly BT Global Equity Fund) since 2004.
In the past Farooq Khan has also served as Executive Chairman of Avcol Stockbrokers prior to its sale to Commonwealth Bank, as well as Non-Executive Director and interim Chairman of Yellow Brick Road Holdings.
RESOURCES AND MINING EXPERIENCE
Mr Khan founded ASX listed Strike Resources Ltd (developing a US$2.9 billion Iron Ore mine in Peru) and over time served as Chairman, Executive and Non-Executive director of the company up until February 2011. He currently serves as an Alternate Director, appointed in January 2014.
Mr Khan was a founding director of ASX listed Alara Resources Ltd (projects in zinc in Saudi Arabia and copper/gold in Oman).
TECHNOLOGY EXPERIENCE
Mr Khan founded and has served as Chairman of a number of ASX listed technology companies including Central Exchange Ltd, the first Australian company to be awarded an Australian Carrier Licence utilising VoIP Technology; FastScout Internet Filtering and Monitoring Technology; Queste Communications VoIP Telephony; Bigshop.com.au online retailer; and Sofcom Internet Services and Web Development.
EDUCATION
Farooq Khan holds a Bachelor of Jurisprudence and Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of Western Australia. Mr Khan is currently admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of Western Australia and the High Court of Australia.
